We were talking to a police officer on the streets of San Antonio when this lady did a K-turn in the middle of the street! I said to him, "can she do that?" and he said no and went over and talked to her. She didn't want to circle the block properly because she was "late for dinner". He told her the only way she wasn't going to get a ticket was if she drove all the way around the block again. It was a pretty dumb move considering she was making the turn in front of literally 15 cops on bikes. Dumbass!

I sure know how to make the best of a weird situation. I snagged an abandoned corner and set up my bed. The next day I found 2 cots to lay the matress on and found another wall. I had a little slice of paradise. Too bad it was so FREAKING COLD in that room. A bazillion tiny sheet type blankets and my sleeping back, plus my hoodie all night long were not enough to keep me from freezing.
Tent City, Camp Colorado

So after we drove to Bogalusa and were not needed, we went back to Baton Rouge. I didn't want to go back to "Hotel FEMA" because I'd already given away my room so I thought I'd check out Tent City, Camp Colorado. It was actually pretty nice. The bed was comfortable, the "portapotties" were nicer than my home bathroom and their were laundry facilities.

It wound up being a practical joke, but this guy drove through Camp Colorado looking like he was one of those people who drive off without putting the nozzle back. It was funny.

I never got to go inside but I drove by it enough times. Some of my team members went in, they said it was nasty.

These were added after a few days for applicants to be able to look stuff up on the internet if they needed to but most of them were more comfortable with us looking stuff up for them, and we were happy to do it. This was before hours where team members that didn't work on computers all day could check their email, etc.

It just amazed me that 95% of the signs and billboards were just bent on over like that ... like the winds hit a certain MPH and the signs just said "we're not worthy!" and over they went.

This was in the flood area but outside the French Quarter down Canal St. This carpet store had been flooded and the carpets went floating towards the door and then dammed up.
Car's don't really float that well.

This was in the flood area outside the French Quarter down Canal St. There are pretty strong water lines on the car from where the water would recede a little each day, the headlights were still filled with water. The car had floated a little from somewhere because it somewhat sideways on the sidewalk.

The door up there on the right is the door to the room my team was staying in. We tried to dam up the water and redirect it, but it was just out of control plus the bathrooms we were using might as well have had no roof at all. We relocated to the downstairs of one of the other buildings in the compound.

The DRC was shut down while Rita went through, so before it hit I went to Walgreens and bought this puzzle. It was a group effort and then passed on to other teams when we were done.
Seriously poor workmanship... the house next door loses shingles and this one collapses on itself.

Note, only a tree knocked over but no flotsam or jetsam on that concrete levy. This was the levy area nearest to where our DRC was.

but still, look how far down the levy he is. The water may have risen, but they levy here did a fine job.
I'm standing on the levy taking this picture. I just don't see how people build this close to water.

There are all these little roads that drive right up to the edge of the canal and I wanted to get a picture of my feet, the edge of the canal and the water, but right when I convinced my team we should do it, they called us in for lock-down because of Rita. Boo. :(
